I’ve been promising and promising you a post on my favorite yarn shop, Aloha Yarn, for some time now. But life just seemed to keep getting in the way. Despite that, I decided today to push “life” aside for a moment so I can tell you about this great, little store.
Yes, it may be little in size, but it’s packed with lots of wonderful yarn, books, supplies … and … best of all, great people who love yarn and fiber arts as much as I do. The proprietor, Nanea, is such a nice person, as well as an experienced fiber artist. I think I mentioned a time or two that it was Nanea who taught me how to crochet leis, resulting in the beautiful (if I must say so myself :-)) wedding leis I made for my friend, Cherryl, who absolutely loves them.
She also gave me so much information and tips on felting that I have become (to my own mind at least) the “crazy felting lady.” When I saw all of the samples of felted bags, and leis too, in the store, I just knew I had to try it.
Felting will probably be the theme of the Christmas gifts I’ll crochet and knit this year (last year it was anything moebius).
Another great thing about Aloha Yarn is the little sitting area that is so inviting. Wednesdays are “come in, sit, and knit or crochet or spin” days, so you can always find ladies there chatting up a storm and doing their thing.
But you can essentially come in any time if you have a question or a little problem in your work you can’t seem to figure out. Nanea and whoever else is in the store at the time, are more than happy to sit down with you and answer your question or help you solve your problem.
Last but not least, the yarns are to die for! Aloha Yarn carries wool and wool blends as well as other animal fibers like alpaca and cashmere; cotton and cotton blends; and novelty yarns, as well as some trusty acrylics.
And these yarns come in all weights, from fingering to bulky. Knitting needles, crochet hooks, books, magazines, and a lot of other supplies adorn the walls and shelves as well.
So, next time you are on the windward side, do stop by. You’ll be glad you did. And if you can’t make it … like, if you are on the mainland or something … you can always order from the Aloha Yarn web site, which you can get to by clicking the link at the beginning of this post.
Until next time, aloha!

Hi, Patrice!
This is Bethany, the new crocheter in the Aloha Knitters group. I stumbled upon Aloha Yarns in July or August, while getting my car looked at in Kaneohe. I thought it was such a great place! It will definitely be my next stop once I finish my crocheted throw and need a new project.
Bethany
Hey Bethany! Thanks for stopping by! Yes, Aloha Yarn is a wonderful store. I still have to pinch myself sometimes, knowing it’s just 5 minutes from home.
